Embrace the struggle

Lilly laid down on the lush green grass peppered with intermittent dead pieces from long periods of no rain striking at her bare leg. All Lilly could do was rest. She couldn’t think one more thought. Her head was throbbing from a sudden onset migraine. All Lilly wanted to do was be productive for the day. After all, she was on a roll knocking out tasks until noon hit and the migraine took over. There was little she could do until the headache subsided. Ever have something stop you in your tracks?

One of the hardest things to do is accept that where you are is not where you want to be. In our lives, we want better careers, better relationships, more money and more out of life. Sound familiar? Yet, we get frustrated along the way. We want to be there now. We get impatient. We want it to happen now.

Acceptance is not having to agree with your current situation. It’s about getting still and taking stock of where you are. What’s working right now? What needs change? Do you just need some rest?

Change is hard at first, messy in the middle and gorgeous at the end. – Robin Sharma

Acceptance allows you to enjoy the present moment and embrace the messy middle.

Today, how can you do this?

1)      How can you accept what is?
2)      How can you enjoy the moment (and even laugh at yourself)?
3)      How can you embrace the messy middle?

Wishing you an abundant, joyful and prosperous day!

Choice, Freedom, and You: Set Yourself Up for Success

Robert, still foggy from his poor sleep, rubbed his eyes and reached for his phone on the nightstand. Before even getting out of bed, he checked the news, social media, and email. His thumb hurt from scrolling up and down on his phone. Looking at the clock, he quickly rushed to take a shower and get to work. In the process he forgot to eat breakfast, but sneaked into a local bakery with no line and picked up a sugary muffin. He figured that would be quick and fast. While replying to the onslaught of work emails and staring aimlessly into the computer screen, he ate his muffin in whole chunks not realizing he barely chewed his food.
Sound familiar?

At some point, most of us have done this at least once. Yet, we fail to acknowledge what we are doing, or the long term effects.

Being intentional with time and energy starts the moment your brain erupts out of sleep.

You choose when you get out of bed.
You choose how to start your day.
You choose what to eat.
You choose how to eat.
You choose what to spend time on.
You choose how to utilize your energy.

What you choose and how you choose to do it – is how you exhibit your freedom in your daily life.

“Money won’t create success, the freedom to make it will.” – Nelson Mandela

Freedom gives you the opportunity to choose. Will you choose what is in alignment with your deepest desires? How will you be more intentional with every moment?

Wishing you an abundant, joyful and prosperous day!

Are You on Track to Hit Your 2018 Goals?

July is fast approaching. Did you execute everything you wanted for the first half of 2018? Are you on track to hit those New Year’s Resolutions out of the park?

Most people set goals that have no meaning. Therefore, it’s easy to push them aside or get distracted. After all, we live in a time with an abundance of opportunity. Yet, we rarely learn how to distinguish what to say Yes to and what to say No to.

When we don’t hit our goals, we easily lose momentum. It sucks! All the excitement drops and we throw up our hands and say, it will never happen. We get down on ourselves. Instead of going down the dark rabbit hole of despair, here’s how to keep the momentum going:

(1) Set goals that excite you.

Can you wake up every morning and be excited about what you’re working on? Imagine what it will feel like to have accomplished that goal. Embody the energy of a completed goal every morning. There’s a difference between, I want to lose 10 pounds versus I want to have more energy to play with my kids. This is what also helps when obstacles, barriers, and problems are in the way.

(2) Schedule time in your day to work on your goals.

Do you have dedicated, uninterrupted time block (2 hours a day) to reach your goals? Two hours a day times 365 days a years is 730 hours. How much progress can you make in your career, life, or relationships when you dedicate 730 hours a year to it?

“Little steps create big gains over time.”

(3) Plan for setbacks.

When your goals hit an obstacle or life throws you a curveball, what strategies do you employ to get back on track? What resources do you need? Did you know that Olympic runners create a strategy for what they will do if they fall during a race? They even practice how they will get up.

Bring meaningful, impactful goals into your career, life, and relationships. If you truly want to make an impact on those around you and society at large, it’s up to you to show up every day dedicated to make this happen.

Wishing you an abundant, joyful and prosperous day!

How Knowledge is Hurting You

Have you ever started a Google search only to end up watching 3 YouTube videos, having 10 different websites open, and losing 3 hours of your day? It’s okay to admit it. Most of us have been there at some point. With more technology, you are bombarded by information 24/7.

Or maybe, you’ve read leadership books or taken an online course,  but then what? You likely didn’t implement anything. You’re not the first and you’re not alone.

The problem is knowledge doesn’t get us anywhere. True growth only happens when we implement new knowledge.

I’m here to tell you that something has to change. I know you’re a strong-willed, motivated person. I know you want to impact the world with big ideas. I know you want to be a positive person and lead those around you, whether it’s at work, at home, or in your community.

It’s time for you to make a positive difference in the world. It’s your time to stop thinking about it and start doing it. I believe you can do it.

Because of this, I’ve created the inaugural Courageous Path Outdoor Retreat to get you going. Together, we will identify the impact you truly want to make. We will identify and conquer the obstacles you face. And, ultimately, build the courage to step into the career, life, and relationships you truly want.

It’s time to let go of what’s holding you back and step into the future you’ve been dreaming of.

Together we will use nature as our guide to implement the changes you want. This small group atmosphere away from technology will get you still, move you in purposeful directions, and build your courage muscles to implement your dream and make a huge impact.

Ready to implement your dream instead of talking about it?

This retreat will take place August 11th-14th. Want to know more? Email me or PM me on social media to get the details.

Do you want to be in the same place three months from now that you are in today? What choice will you make?

I’m here to guide you to your full potential and live life to the max. There are only 3 spots left. Contact me today.

Wishing you an abundant, joyful and prosperous day!

Who Cheers You on When You’re Down?

In our life, career, and relationships, we all go through turbulent times at some point. Life is not always a pretty picture of an ocean wave or scenic mountains. Losing a job, losing a loved one, or even a bad fight can strike at your heart or deep into your soul. Most have love to give. Yet, in difficult times, its learning how to receive, ask for help or give yourself grace that is key.

We love to put on a façade. All day we wear a colorful mask that looks beautiful on the outside yet covers the pain inside. When someone asks “How are you?”, you immediately say “Fine” like a blink of an eye.

When life isn’t so grand, it is important to have cheerleaders in your life. People who support you, listen, and raise you up.

It’s time to take off the mask, expose your truth, and find your cheerleaders.

I recently published an article, How Hockey Healed Me, in The Good Men Project. The article describes how I overcame severe depression and suicidal tendencies as a young teenager. A band of strangers unknowingly supported my journey. These strangers turned into friends who became my cheerleaders. This is the first time, I have publicly conveyed this story in writing.

Your cheerleaders are your community – the people who surround you. This is why Community Engagement is a prime pillar of the Courageous Path framework. It specifically guides you back to deep, rich, soulful connection with others and yourself.

I’m creating a community for you! Yes, you!

Today, I’m officially announcing the inaugural Rise Above: Experience More outdoor retreat scheduled for August 11-14 in Estes Park, Colorado. I’m only accepting 5 folks who want to reach the next level of their life, career, and relationships. At this retreat, you will identify your dreams, bust through your obstacles, and develop courage muscles to go bigger, farther, and do more of what’s fulfilling to you.

Are you ready to live your life to the fullest? To your highest potential? And really make it happen? It’s your time. This is your year. I’m creating this community to support you to reach and attain your highest endeavors.

Do you want in? Email me and we will schedule a short chat and see if you’re a good fit.

It’s your time to have a community of supporters that raise you up, not tear you down.

Wishing you an abundant, joyful and prosperous day!

Are You Really Passionate About Your Dreams?

Dreams are not as far fetched as you may think. Gillian laid in bed one night. For twenty years she dreamed about playing in an orchestra again. When Gillian was in high school, she loved how playing the violin made her feel inside. Gillian’s soul vibrated as the melody’s tone went up and down in pitch. Then, all came together in harmony with the other instruments. She dreamed one day of being a conductor, leading an orchestra with the state symphony.

As she got older, she dropped playing the violin. Her job was demanding as was her new family. Yet, every time she listened to classical music, her heart vibrated with joy. She got present in the moment, and her body was electrified inside and out.

Out of the blue, Gillian saw an ad for auditions for her state symphony scheduled to take place in 6 weeks. What if? What if I audition, she thought? What’s the worst that could happen?

Gillian stopped everything she was doing and searched for violin teachers in her area. After hearing Gillian’s enthusiasm and excitement, a local violin teacher agreed to take her on as a student if she agreed to the following: An hour long lesson twice a week and practice daily for an hour. She sat back for a moment in self-doubt. Can I really do this? Get ready to audition in 6 weeks? What about my job? What about my family?

Gillian’s family saw how much she became alive when she talked about this. She scheduled a housekeeper and had the family assist in cooking meals. Her desire to become part of the symphony became a family calling. They all rallied to support her.

Gillian became so focused at work that she was more productive in less time. Her boss was impressed and secretly cheering her on.

The big day came. It was audition day. Gillian was nervous yet knew she put all her effort in to the best of her ability. They called her name. She sat down, took a deep breath and played the best 2 minutes of a classical piece she’d played in her head for over 20 years. The judges immediately said – You’re in!

Gillian devoted one hour a day to her dream. Can you do this?

Ask yourself this:

  •        How passionate are you really?
  •        What are you willing to do to make your dreams happen?
  •        Who do you need to become to make your reality?

“The only difference between a dream and a goal is a deadline.”

Are you ready to get back in tune with your passions? And, find out how to make them become reality?

Stay tuned, I will announce shortly an outdoor retreat to get you back in touch with your dreams and release what’s holding you back. It’s time to put your dreams in reality. I can wait to share this with you.

Wishing you an abundant, joyful and prosperous day!

Want More Freedom?

Do you crave the freedom to do what you want, when you want to? We all want to taste the joy of living a fully rich life with experiences that connect us and help others.

Most people don’t realize that Freedom is easy to get yet even easier to lose.

A recent article described how the first African from South Africa climbed Mount Everest. Truly incredible story how a very agile man accidentally met a British gentleman who knew about an expedition to Mount Everest. He opened his eyes to an incredible opportunity that taught him extreme alpine mountaineering skills and took him high above the clouds to a new destination he couldn’t even dream about. This opportunity gave him incredible freedom to now live a life he didn’t even know was possible.

Where do you squash the freedom you’ve been given?

Ask yourself these valuable questions:

  1. Do you spend energy on activities that drain you?
  2. Do you waste time on distractions that don’t serve you, your life’s mission, or your relationships?
  3. Do you schedule what’s important to you?
  4. Are you ultra-focused throughout the day?

In the long run, freedom is all about discipline.

Is your discipline razor sharp? If not, what can you do to improve this?

Wishing you an abundant, joyful, and prosperous day!

How You Sabotage Your Dreams

Do you spend more time on distractions than your dreams? The famous saying, “Energy flows where attention goes.” is spot on.

Gillian’s intense job led her to frequently check her phone to break up the intensity. This gave her a break from the daily grind. Every time Gillian saw a new social media post or text from a friend she got excited. It made her feel good and she received an extra punch to keep going on with her day. The extra punch is actually the neurochemical, dopamine, that is associated with reward, yet also involved in addiction.

Over time, Gillian started spending more time on her phone than doing the required work.  Her work performance suffered and, her relationships deteriorated as social media provided a false sense of connection. Sound familiar? Gillian realized her dreams kept getting farther and farther away.

It takes an of average of 25 minutes to get back on task after a distraction. How much time does this cost you during the day? How much further are your dreams because of distractions?

How do you break this cycle? Here are some valuable tips.

1)      Turn off all notifications on your phone.
2)      Put your phone where you can’t see it or access it within arm’s reach.
3)      Schedule time for valuable tasks and don’t let any distractions pop up.

Ready to gain more time in your day? These simple tips can save hours in your week and give you the time you desperately crave for what’s really important to you.

Wishing you an abundant, joyful and prosperous day!

Do You Nurture Chaos?

Lisa sat on the cold, damp bathroom floor crying. What’s happening? I’m exhausted, drained, and overwhelmed by everything. As the tears dropped off her cheeks, she stood up slowly and looked at herself in the mirror. She could barely look. Lisa took a deep breath and said, This has to change.

She took a cleansing shower. With the drops of water pouring over her, she closed her eyes and imagined how she truly wanted each aspect of her life. Lisa got out feeling refreshed and immediately put her mind and body to work.

What was the biggest obstacle that she currently faced?

Lisa realized it was the pain in her back that took away her energy and caused her inability to focus. While she had to visit a number of practitioners to identify the root cause, after nine months she received the proper care and treatment.

One year later, Lisa ran a half-marathon completely pain free. She had so much energy that she signed up for a full marathon for later in the year. On top of that, she served as a role model at work and received a promotion.

When you look at your life garden, are you nurturing the weeds or the flowers? Too many of us go through the motions of our day with no intention. It’s time to nourish the flowers not the weeds in our life garden.

“Our intention creates our reality.” – Wayne Dyer

“There is always a gap between intention and action.” Paul Coelho

Planting a seed of opportunity doesn’t mean that it will blossom overnight. This picture is Iris plants that were planted 2 years ago. These plants have been hit by several hail storms and never bloomed until now. If you are intentional and take action, what will blossom in your life 6 months to a year from now?

Wishing you an abundant, joyful and prosperous day!

How Toxicity Builds Up and Affects You Without You Knowing It

Philip worked hard to support his family and hit his next career level as Senior Director. He thought, if I just get this promotion, all will be good. Philip started working more hours and would come home depleted and set the mail on a table along with all the other papers. The long hours took a toll and Philip slowly started gaining weight. He bought some new clothes that fit, thinking this is just a temporary set-back.

While Philip desperately wanted time to connect with his friends and family, work always took the higher priority. This lack of connection could be noticed in his shallow breath, racing heart, and heartache from wanting meaningful relationships. The doctor advised Philip to start taking heart medication to lower his cholesterol.

This was a wake-up call for Philip.

Philip came home and said enough is enough. It’s time to make some drastic changes.

He cleaned up the never-ending stacks of papers all over the house, recycling and shredding.

Philip looked at the clothes spilling out of his closet, haphazardly falling off hangers and in piles. He sorted through everything he hadn’t worn for a year and donated it.

Philip announced to his family they would take a short getaway vacation to get back in touch with each other.

Philip sat down and realized he was going through the motions. He let this toxicity build up over time. It didn’t happen overnight.

Where is toxicity in your life?

  • Do you have relationships that are no longer mutually beneficial?
  • Are your home, office, closets in need of decluttering and organization?
  • Does your mind lead you down the road of negative thoughts?
  • What bad habits (e.g., eating ice cream at 10 pm) interfere with your best self?

Take this spring time to declutter and purge what no longer serves you. Create open space for what you truly want to come in.

Wishing you an abundant, prosperous, and joyful week!
