How You Can Be An Olympian For Your Dreams

What do you want to become a champion in? The best parent? The best employee? A successful business owner? The best spouse ever? A best friend? A world changer? The amazing part is – you have the capacity to become one!

Keep in mind, it doesn’t happen overnight. This past week, I have been in awe watching the Olympics. How did the U.S. Gold Medal snowboarder, Chloe Kim, perform a 1080? That’s three full rotations in the air? Simple.

Practice. Practice. Practice.

Chloe Kim dedicated time each and every day to make it happen.

She surrounded herself with loving people who supported her journey.

Chloe wasn’t afraid to go for it.

She believed she could do it.

Chloe Kim visualized how to correct a move if it was too over or under rotated. When was the last time you visualized or thought how to handle something if it didn’t go quite right? Maybe you wanted to approach your boss about a good idea. Did you consider all the possible scenarios? Of course you visualized the praise for acceptance of the idea. But, did you consider if only part of the idea would be accepted?

Chloe developed the habits and routine to get her there. What habits support your journey to reach your dreams on a daily and weekly basis?

I won’t lie. I don’t always enjoy going to the gym for intense workouts. Yet, it pays off when I climb higher in the mountains. Are you willing to get through the hard parts for the beautiful payoff?

What habits will propel you forward? Sometimes it’s as easy as setting out your gym clothes the night before to get you to hit the gym in the morning.

Wishing you an abundant, joyful and prosperous day!

Bring Spice Into Your Relationships

Do you have a romantic relationship, friendship, or other kinship that has gone flat? How do you add spice back into your connections? Check this out!

Jill and Don have been married for over 15 years. Jill knows exactly what to expect. She’ll get a dozen roses and a box of chocolates. Same old, same old. They’ll likely bicker when they first get home and retreat to their corners of the house barely saying a word to each other except to acknowledge who is taking the kids to practice tonight. Don recognized they’ve been growing apart for a while and he truly wanted to re-engage with his best friend, confidant, and travel partner.

With the flick of a switch, Don planned a lavish night.

Jill walked in after a frantic day at the office to dim light lights, rose petals (laid out by the kids) led to a 4 course meal for the entire family. The kids were excited to see their parents getting along again. Jill noticed a corner of paper sticking out from underneath her dinner plate. Don, with a gentle voice, said, “Go ahead and open it.” It was a gorgeously decorated envelope. Inside there was an invitation to join her husband for an exclusive weekend at a remote cabin in the nearby national forest. Tears began running down Jill’s face. She desperately wanted a break to disconnect from work and rekindle her marriage. Jill reached over and hugged her husband for the first time in months.

How can you bring zest back to your romantic relationship? If you’re not in one, don’t fret. What can you do for a friend, family member, colleague, or even stranger that can use some extra love?

It’s time to add spark into your relationships.

May kindness, peace, and love rain onto this Valentine’s Day. Wishing you a loving, warm, and joyful day!

Are You Ready For That Big Opportunity?

As I’m watching the Super Bowl, I can’t stop asking myself – Are you ready for the big game? All eyes are on you. Your actions will make one city cheer and another cry. Your actions are being watched by over 110 million people across the United States and world. The impact you make will be talked about for days and years to come.

When you receive that amazing opportunity (perhaps your dream job), how will you respond? What would you say? I’m too tired and exhausted. I can’t add anything more to my plate. I don’t get enough sleep now. I want to but I can’t right now.

Or, would you jump for joy? Would you say, I know what to do to clear my schedule to make it happen. I believe in my capabilities. I’m glad I do what it takes to have energy and stamina in my life.

Opportunities are mere challenges to stretch yourself and go beyond what you think you’re capable of. Yes, there will be butterflies in your stomach. There will be self-doubt that you can do it. But, the impact is real. In the past, how have you risen to the challenge? What worked and what didn’t? What can you improve for next time?

I want you to have the energy, stamina, and endurance for the big game or opportunity when it comes. Its takes daily preparation and practice. It takes stillness to figure out what’s important and courageous steps to move forward in the right direction.

Wishing you an abundant, joyful and prosperous day!

Why We Should Be More Like Squirrels

Everyday these tiny, small creatures scamper across my roof. The squirrels run across my fence and scour my yard for the nuts they hid in the fall. Watching the squirrels is comical. Yet, every time the squirrels put a smile on my face and laughter in my belly. Can you say that every person you interact with smiles and laughs as a result?

In life we tend to get too serious. We are either so focused we don’t realize other people exist or we’re too distracted (by phones, tv, news, etc.) to pay attention to the needs of other people. Would you want to regularly hang out with either of these people? Probably not.

We most enjoy being around people who are playful – just like the squirrel. This way we have fun in our everyday moments and don’t take life too seriously. What’s the best way to truly connect with someone? Share a laugh. Even if it’s a really bad joke.

How can you bring a sense of fun and play to your next interaction? Or better yet – your next meeting?
How can you lighten the mood or uplift someone’s day?
How can you make someone laugh today?

Squirrels are mischievous creatures always on the move to be more playful. I hope you bring squirrel characteristics into your day.

Wishing you an abundant, joyful and prosperous day!

The Best Way to Wreck a Relationship

There’s one easy way to wreck a relationship. See how this unravels.

Andrea came home from two days away. As she approached her house, there were construction workers outside and a construction trailer in front. What the heck! Who are these people? What are they doing here? As Andrea pulled into her driveway, she quickly got out of the car, kept her cell phone handy to call the police, and inquired what was going on. She slowed down her quick frantic walking pace and realized the contractors finally came (after 3 months of calling) to fix the siding on her house from major hail damage over nine months ago. She took a deep breath and asked for the person in charge. She stated that she was never notified.

Andrea took another deep breath and said, “Walk me through the already completed work and your next steps.” Everything made sense.

Andrea mentioned she was never notified. The head foreman said, “I thought the office contacted you.” Andrea said, “No, I was never contacted or notified.” Andrea continued to say, “Don’t ever make assumptions. You’ve been working on my property for two days without the homeowner’s awareness. You’re lucky my neighbors didn’t call the police.”

Miguel Ruiz mentions that one of his four agreements is, “Don’t make assumptions.” ’He goes on to state, “Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.”

Whether it’s as simple as a notification, any assumption can lead to anger, frustration, and annoyance. Most failures in relationships come from assumptions. In a romantic relationship, people often get frustrated because someone didn’t do something. What happens is the frustrated person typically fails to ask questions and then makes inaccurate assumptions.

What type of relationships do you want? Fruitful, empathetic and understanding or constant strain and tension?

What’s the lesson in all of this? Have the courage to ask the right questions in any relationship. This will lead to understanding and empathy instead of frustration, blame, and anger.

This week, what questions will you ask to lead to better relationships?

Wishing you an abundant, joyful and prosperous day!

When to Keep Going vs When to Let Go

Alexia desperately wanted a promotion. She worked long hours to prove she was worthy of the next step. Yet, the long hours took a toll on her friendships and her young child that she only saw for an hour before bedtime each evening. Alexia thought, if only I could get that promotion, I’d be set. Have you ever been in a similar situation?

The promotion never came and she was let go from her company. Alexia kept thinking, What did she do wrong? What happened? As the next week went by, she started cutting out unnecessary expenses and spending more time with friends and her young daughter. She recognized that working long hours for more money didn’t provide what she truly wanted – connection with others.

A month later, Alexia was offered a new job. This time Alexia decided she would work differently. She purposely scheduled time with friends and her daughter and kept to her weekly budget. She felt in control of her destiny. Alexia now spends time doing what she loves with who she loves.

Will you take the time to figure out the impact you want to have in each area of our life? By identifying your impact, you can figure out what’s worth striving for vs what you can let go. Alexia realized the hard way, she was striving for the wrong thing. Persistence for your Impact GoalsTM brings about excitement, joy, and harmony. Persistence for the wrong thing brings about stress, overwhelm, and exhaustion. I want you to have the former and not the latter.

The 1st Thing to Ask Yourself to Create a Better 2018

This time of year, we want something different from the old. We crave something new, fun, and anything that makes life easier. Yet, it’s often hard to make those sweeping changes. It seems daunting.

The reality is – what you choose today will affect you three months from now and even years from now. So, the big question is – what do you truly want? What impact do you want on a particular area of your life? Doing the same thing you did last year will only get you the same results. What’s one thing that you want to go smoother, easier, less hectic, and more with the flow?

Is it a different tone in a relationship?
Is it a career move or taking on a new project?
Is it more playtime or a fun hobby?
Is it learning a new skill?

Four months ago, I discovered community was a big value for me and I wanted to be around more like-minded folks, especially in the mountains. The universe answered my calling. Last fall I was invited to join a group ski house in the mountains. While knowing few people in the house, I took a leap of faith and joined. This weekend proved I made the right decision. I’m reaping the benefits nearly four months afterwards. I met incredible people who share my same philosophy of clean eating, creating the lives we want to live, and getting mentally and physically stronger. Instead of getting stuck in horrendous ski traffic back to the city on Sunday night after a fun day of skiing, I cooked a healthy meal, got a good night’s sleep, and caught Oprah’s amazing Golden Globes speech. I avoided the angst that goes with bumper to bumper traffic and an unhealthy meal on the way home. A simple decision and a leap of faith reaped its benefits. My mind and body were rested to start Monday off fresh.

For 2018, how will your courageous decisions align with your vision for the future? To start, ask the universe for what you want. If you never express what will make your life easier, how will the universe know what to send you? Check out last week’s blog on Creating Impact Goals™ for more details. Then, when the opportunity presents itself or you create it, go for it! Do you want help to make this happen. Schedule a short session and let’s get you going in 2018.

Wishing you an abundant, joyful and prosperous day!

Create Impact Goals: A New Way to Achieve Your Dreams in 2018

Happy New Year! 2018 is here. It’s a new year and the best part is (drum roll, please). You get to choose how to live each and every day. From here on out, the possibility of anything awaits you. Will you choose to live into your dreams? Or, will you choose distraction? Will you honor the person you want to become or stay frustrated that not everything went right last year? Each morning, each moment, we choose how we want to live.

Several years ago, my friend Adam drove me to the airport for my flight to Bangkok, Thailand for a two week travel adventure. Adam stated, you go on a lot of once-in-a-lifetime trips. I thought to myself, you’re right, I definitely do!  The thing is ever since my first international trip to Europe after college, I made a point to travel internationally at least once a year. Trips varied from work in Africa, to adventures in Asia, to mountain climbing in South America. No matter the reason, I made it a point to do this each year, as I loved to experience new perspectives, cultures, and scenery. What will you make a point to achieve in 2018?

I want more for you this year. Something vast, expansive, joyful, and fun. I want you to achieve your dreams not just think about them. Dreams have passion behind them, stretch you into something new, and make you believe you can achieve the impossible. Dreams give you the ammunition to keep going even though it’s hard or difficult to get there. Dreams impact you and those around you. They touch the depth of your soul and make you come alive when you talk about them.

Dreams have a bigger calling and a big why behind them. And, the only difference between a dream and a goal is a deadline  – and one more piece I’ll mention below.

For example, most people want to get healthier in 2018 and simply state- I want to get healthier. Or, I want to lose 10 pounds of weight. This is vague, very vague. And vague gives you vague results. If you said instead, I want to have the energy to chase my kid up the hill or even increase my speed on a hike, your reason delivers impact. By playing with your kids more you develop a better relationship with them. By hiking with others, you create community engagement and health simultaneously.  Your why creates meaning and the more meaning we have the bigger impact we make.

We often wonder why we are motivated or not motivated towards working on a big goal. Goals tend to be the so-so thing we think we should/need to do and won’t do in the long run because we see no meaning behind it. Simply said, you won’t work on goals that have no meaning. However, you will work on something that will impact you, your loved ones, and the world. And, that’s a big difference!

This year, I want you to make Impact Goals™. Specifically, think about the Impact you want to make in 2018 with yourself, your career, your loved ones, and the world around you.

How to create Impact Goals:

  1.       What are three (not five, not ten) big impacts you want to achieve in 2018?
  2.       Why is each Impact Goal™ important to you?
  3.       Who will benefit from the Impact Goal™ and why is that important to you?

So, how do you do this? Every day do this:

  1.       Write down or repeat your Impact Goal™ every day
  2.       Complete one action or task that will move you closer to that Impact Goal™

Impact goals lead to achieving your dreams. And, I want you to achieve more dreams this year.

Join me to create big impact and achieve your dreams by replying to this email. I’ll tell you the extra details to creating goals that impact you, your loved ones, and your world.

Wishing you a prosperous, joyful, and abundant 2018!

How to Become a CEO

I have a juicy, dirty, secret to tell you. Do you want to know what it is? Seriously, do you really want to know? Hee hee –  here it is:

You are the CEO of your life.

From the moment your brain wakes up for the day, you chose whether to get up, hit the snooze button, check your phone, or spend some quiet time with yourself planning your day. Believe it or not, we make over 35,000 choices a day. How many of those choices honor your dreams, your relationships, your ambitions?

You may not believe this but you make every choice in your life. It’s easy to blame an employer, a spouse, the traffic. This diverts responsibility.

You choose whether to compromise.
You choose what to eat every day.
You choose when to engage in social media.
You choose how you want to treat people.
You choose who you want to associate yourself with.
You choose how to spend your time.
You choose how you engage with other people.
You choose how you treat yourself. (This is a big one!)

In the world where we want to have more time for what we love, taking ownership for our choices is key. It’s hard to gulp down this responsibility. The more you choose what’s right for you, your dreams, your relationships, the better you will feel inside and out.

What will you choose differently in 2018? I know I have a long list of how I will choose differently. What’s yours?

Reply or PM me in social media to set-up a time to chat and get your 2018 started of right.

Wishing you an abundant, joyful and prosperous day!

Holiday Parties: From Boring to Exciting

Have you ever wondered how to make holiday parties more enjoyable?

Sarah stands alone in the dimly lit corner of a room filled with holiday attendees. Sarah scans the room to see if she knows anyone. She was invited by the host who was busy greeting all the guests as they arrived. Sarah felt all alone despite being in a room filled with over 50 people. Sarah thought, what do I say? I don’t even know these people. Why did I even come? I came because I wanted to meet some new people.

Sarah takes a deep breath and strolls over to the food table and grabs a little of each colorful and flavorful dish. She thought – maybe I can quickly eat and then roll out of here fast. Of course, that was not her intent in coming. Sarah looked across the room and caught a smile from a tall, dark handsome man on the other side of the room. He gently nodded and motioned for her to come join his conversation.

Sarah took another deep breath, trying not to drop her plate, composed herself and walked to the group of 5 which seemed intimidating to her. It’s now or never she thought to herself. Deep breath again. Here I go.

She asked each person in the group, “What’s been the best part of 2017?” Each person thought long and hard. They began to respond, “A new job”, “Getting engaged”, “Taking a 3 day yoga trip”. The group said, what about you, Sarah? Sarah gently looked up and in the eyes of each person and said, “Learning how to have meaningful conversations with complete strangers.”

Each person in the group chuckled and said, you make us feel at ease around you. Sarah smiled and said, “It’s easy. Ask a more in-depth question and don’t ask – How are you?”

This time of year, we can get careless in our conversations. We ask, “how are you?” as an informal greeting instead of a real question. If you really want to know someone better, ask a more in-depth question and share what your response is too.

Here are 3 questions to get you going:

  • What’s been the best part of 2017?
  • What are you looking forward to in 2018?
  • What’s your big dream for 2018 and how can I support you in that endeavor?

People want to be seen, heard, and validated. Do you want to learn how to connect with people more easily? Contact me to gain more insights.
